| Larry Stevens began his radio career in 1963 in his hometown of Grundy, Virginia. After earning a degree in electronics in 1967, Larry continued with his radio career that lasted until September 1996. He and his wife arrived in Montgomery in 1969 where they have lived ever since. During his broadcast years, Larry served in music director, program director and general manager positions. Under his guidance, he launched and lead to the top of the ratings two radio stations in Montgomery. He was also named “Program Director of the Year” several times and his stations won “Station of the Year” in nationwide competition. In 1981 Larry was named “Montgomery’s Outstanding Young Man” and then one of “Alabama’s Four Outsmarting Young Men.” From 1997 through 2004, Larry did morning shows on two Montgomery stations radio stations while forming and running his own advertising agency. Larry formed the Larry Stevens Agency in 1996. Within a year he had landed several accounts including the prestigious Southern Homes & Gardens account. Andrea Ingram, Larry’s daughter, joined him in the company in the spring of 1997 upon graduation from college. In 1997, The Larry Stevens Agency was named as one of Montgomery’s 30 emerging businesses. The company continued to grow. In April of 2008, Brent Markwell joined the LSA, and the company became Stevens Markwell Ingram INC. Now boasting almost 50 clients SMI represents many of Montgomery’s most well known advertisers. The company has been named “Small Business of the Year In the Arts” because of the contributions made to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and many others. When Al Stroh decided to bring a new station to the Montgomery area he decided to take the station contemporary Christian and asked Larry to do the afternoon show. Larry agreed because he felt the format would do well and contemporary Christian was his favorite music. Larry and his family have been active with the Cornerstone Christian Church in Montgomery since 1979. Larry now serves as one of the elders and teaches Bible classes as well. Larry says, "While I work to feed my family and meet our needs, my first priority is serving the Lord. He has blessed me beyond my wildest expectations and anything I can do to bring Him glory, I will.
